Co-inciding with the rally organised by DESAM today to make education a free zone, the Senapati District Students' Association has strongly condemned the abduction and physical harassment meted out to the ZEO, Senapati district, CB Paudyal by unidentified gunmen.
In a statement, SDSA alleged that the gunmen had demanded Rs 20 lakhs from the Education Department, Senapati.
The ZEO was abducted on July 3 at about 8.20 pm, from his residence in the heart of Senapati town, said the statement and added that he and his wife were taken to Phaibung road blindfolded where they were detained for two nights.
Taking strong exception, the student body urged all underground organisations not to disturb education in the district as well as not to repeat such acts in future.
