Imphal, June 30 2009:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has alleged that funds sanctioned for construction of PHC buildings and staff-quarters in the hill districts have been diverted to the valley.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the ATSUM said that a total of Rs 1017.55 lakhs were sanctioned construction of PHC buildings at the rate of Rs 76.72 lakhs each and staff-quarters at Rs 68.07 lakhs each under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) at Patpuimum, Singhat, Khangkhul Khullen, Phungyar, T Waichong, Saparmeina, Komlathabi and Sajik Tampak.
However, the list of these villagers where the health centres should be built has been modified and amount for the construction has been reduced to accommodate five villages in the valley, one in Bishnupur and four in Imphal East.
Taking strong exception to the alleged act of fund diversion, ATSUM urged upon the Chief Minister to redress the issue and implement the NRHM programme in toto.
