Imphal, October 29 2009:
The constant assault on women in the capital of India has become a trend against human dignity.
Such barbaric crimes committed at mainland India have infused racial discrimination tinged with castiest prejudice towards the people of North Eastern region, asserted a joint press release issued by UNC, ANSAM, NWUM and NPMHR (South).
The heinous crime of rape and merciless killing of Ramchanphy Hongray of Green Land, Ukhrul by Pushpam Kumar Sinha, an IIT-Delhi student from Bihar on October 24, was a clear reflection of the deviant mindset.
The Naga civil society in the strongest term denounce and condemn the sacrilegious act of murdering for lust and physical obsession, it conveyed.
The Naga civil organisations also disagree with the defensive remarks of the Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police who termed the abominable crime as another isolated 'obsessive compulsive disorder' case.
The crime was against humanity and the culprit should not be given leniency under any exemptible pretext, they asserted while demanding rigorous and befitting punishment against the culprit.
The Government of Delhi and the Government of India should be ashamed of the obnoxious crimes.
"The Naga Civil Society will not hesitate to question the Indian authority as to whether the people of North Eastern Region are lesser human category.
Such random assault is a reflection and indication of abetting criminal activities by the Indian State in the full glare of the international community", they remarked.
"We demand from the Government of India that proper mechanism be put into place to provide security and restore confidence in the rule of law since North East people continue to be oppressed, suppressed and alienated by the castiest psyche imbedded in the Indian ruling class", further said the statement.
The civil organisation further called upon all North Easterners to join in solidarity to resist the systematic policy to make the region's community a subservient category in the 'so called' modern Indian society.
The response from the concerned Delhi authority has been predominantly racist to the northeasterners all these years in the post independent India era and the insensitivity of the state policy to the attitude of racial arrogance of the dominant community so far makes it a party to the crimes being perpetrated thus far, they alleged.
They further called upon the international community to take note that the Indian state has been mouthing democracy while common northeasterners have been enduring senseless violence committed under the ancient caste system keeping the people of the North East region excluded and gradually annihilating their dignity.
Back in northeast hinterlands, the people are being 'domesticated' through militarization for more than half a century whereas the dominant society has been willingly allowing the tentacles of casteism and prejudice to rule the so call civilized metro city of India, they alleged.
They also conveyed their deepest condolence and solidarity to the victim family.
