Imphal, January 29 2021:
Claiming that some schools are yet to open despite the directive from the State Government, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has appealed to the Government and authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest Briefing media persons in front of TG Higher Secondary School today, AMSU vice president, Laishram Athouba Meitei said that the student body has been inspecting the conduct of classes in schools and colleges since January 27 by constituting different teams.
Saying that they came across some schools not opening during their inspection drive, Athouba urged the State Government and all concerned to do the needful for classes to resume in all educational institutions at the earliest.
Pointing out that the rate of students attending offline classes is quite low, the vice president of AMSU urged the Government to take the opinions of absentees (students) as well as their parents and regulate a policy for them to attend classes.
Asking if the sudden hike in transportation charge is fuelled by the sharp hike of petrol and diesel prices, Athouba opined that this issue also needs checking for the wellbeing of both the students and civilians commuting on passenger vehicles.
Pertaining to the fare issue, AMSU is convening a meeting on February 1 at its office at 1.30 pm, he informed and appealed to all the passenger service providers, students and civilians to attend the same on time to take a definite resolution for submission to the Government.
Saying that closure of Khwairamband Keithel also has had a serious impact on students as many of the vendors send their children to schools and colleges by vending goods and vegetables, Athouba appealed to the State Government to consider opening the Khwairamband Keithel by formulating SOPs.
