6 suspected foreign Nationals remanded

JMIC Imphal West-II, remanded 16 suspected foreign Nationals, who were trying to enter the State along National Highway 37 (Imphal- Jiribam road) on March 22, to three more days in police custody today (till March 29).The said individuals were produced before the Court by a team of Patsoi PS today along with a prayer for three more days police remand.
The IO of the case submitted that the address given by the suspected foreign Nationals as Silchar Cachar district, is suspected to be false information.
It was submitted that on March 22, at around 5.30 pm, acting on reliable information that some foreign Nationals have illegally entered the State through National Highway 37, from Jiribam side, Patsoi police immediately conducted frisking and checking in front of Patsoi PS and in the process, intercepted two passenger vehicles and detained 16 suspected foreign National for proper verification.
During the verification, OC of Jiribam PS was contacted through telephone to see if all the detained individuals were registered/checked at the foreigner check post at Jiribam.
OC Jiribam intimated that out of the 16 detained individuals, two people, identified as one Nazim Uddin Laskar and one Helal Hussain Majumdar, had not registered at the foreigner check post.
The IO further submitted that the two individuals were questioned and during the questioning, Nazim Uddin Lasker revealed that he is a Rohingya Muslim and he entered India from Myanmar and is presently stationed at Mahanagar Jirighat.
On the other hand, Helal Hussain Majumdar also disclosed that he is a Bengali Muslim and entered India from Bangladesh and is presently staying at Mahanagar Jirighat.
Further both of them revealed that they were on their way to Imphal in search of manual labour/shelter.
In the meantime, one individual identified as Sathi Ahmed of Jirighat (presently staying at Hapta Central Masjid area) came to Patsoi PS for bailing out the two detained foreign Nationals and due to suspicion, he was also detained by the police for necessary investigation.
On preliminary interrogation, Sathi Ahmed revealed that he used to transport people/unidentified individuals from Jirighat to Imphal on getting some money as gratification.
During verification by the police, the remaining 13 other individuals claimed to be citizens of India but they were still detained on suspicion of being illegal migrants and as their electoral identity cards and documents appeared to be forged.
The IO further submitted that during the investigation, it came to light that Nazim Uddin Lasker and Helal Hussain Majumdar have no authentic document (NRC) as proof of their citizenship.
Even though Hussain Ahemad Lasker produced an electoral ID card, proper checking through Voter helpline Apps revealed that serial number of the electoral voter ID was registered in the name of a female.
The IO continued that efforts are on to conclude the investigation of the case and necessary information has been sent to the District Magistrate/DEO concerned for verification of the electoral identity cards of the detained suspected foreign Nationals and as such prayed for remanding the detained individuals to three more days in police custody.
After going through the case records, the Court remanded the 16 individuals to police custody till March 29 .
