Imphal, April 26 2012:
Taking up the cudgel for the sake for the land and people, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) have today launched an awareness campaign on the Inner Line Permit system among school students.
The campaign was set into motion today with an awareness programme held at CC Higher Secondary School.
The programme was graced by adviser of FREINDS, Th Manihar; Dr L Khomdon; president of FREINDS Sapamcha Jadumani; Principal of CC Higher Secondary School, Indrani; DESAM president Wangmayum Islauddin and KSA president Yumnam Pradipkumar as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, vice-president of DESAM, Moirangthem Angamba Meetei said that one third of the total population of Manipur is constituted by outsiders.
He said the outsiders hold control of the price of essential commodities.
These apart, they openly share the quota of the locals in various competitive exams.
By marrying indigenous women, the people from outside the State have slowly but surely set the process of hybridisation of the people, Angamba said.
He also said that some outsiders are making the State a safe haven after committing crimes at their respective places.
Even there have been cases of some people living freely after committing severe crimes here.
The indigenous population would surely be extinct if the trend of unregulated entry continues, he said while stressing on the need to implement proper regulation of migrants in the State as done in neighbouring States like Nagaland and Mizoram.
Sapamcha Jadumani said it is necessary to stave off the incident of unregulated and rampant migrations of people from outside the State.
Jadumani suggested that the students can write to the State CM, Prime Minister of India and UN authority to protect and preserve the indigenous population of the State.
Stating that migration is a common issue of all communities of the State, he said intense agitation is in line with hill based students' organisations.
Emphasising on the effects of rampant migration, KSA president, Yumnamcha Pradipkumar said it would not be proper to remain silent over the issue.
