Suspected thief beaten to death

Imphal, March 26 2014:
A tense situation has gripped Nongshum area after a suspected thief was beaten to death this morning.
According to information culled from the spot, Huirem Naba (44) s/o late Jilla of Nongshum Mayai Leikai succumbed to injuries at around noon.
Naba was led away from his home by some members of Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) based at Natumching of Heikak Mapal Makha Leikai at around 7.30 am.
Naba was thrashed by UFO members on the charge that he stole a statue of UFO's logo 'Anji'.
Injured Naba was taken to Sagolmang CHC but he succumbed to the injuries at around noon.
Enraged by the death of Naba, local people of Nongshum vandalised the houses of Thingom Iboyaima (45) and his younger brother Bishwaroop in the afternoon who were reportedly among the UFO members who led away Naba from his home.
Further, house of one Yaikhom Jiten (45) of Heikak Mapal Makha Leikai was also vandalised.
However, the house of Naoroibam Sobha (40) of Loushangkhong Mayai Leikai was saved from any such vandalisation with the timely arrival of police.
It is reported that a part of the UFO's logo reportedly stolen was found in the foothills of Natumching inside a sack yesterday.
