Move with escorts, urges TDC

The Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) has appealed to all civil transporters not to move on National Highways without security escorts.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office this afternoon, TDC president H Ranjit said that they have a received a written instruction from police headquarters for civil trucks and tankers not to leave their stations after 6 pm and also not to move trucks and tankers on National Highways without security escorts.
In case of break down of vehicles on the way, drivers should inform the nearest police station or security posts.
If possible, the vehicles should be pulled in to the nearest security post so as to avoid recurrence of any untoward incident like the case of S Babu.
The escort commanders and transporters need to cooperate on this matter in order to avoid loss of precious lives and properties, Ranjit said.
A notification issued by the IGP (AP/Ops) has instructed police stations located along National Highways to prevent movement of civil trucks without security escorts after 6 pm.
TDC condemned in the strongest term the murder of driver Babu from Samurou Awang Leikai as well as the act of setting blaze two trucks loaded with FCI rice and cement.
The corpse of Babu was claimed yesterday only after an understanding was reached in a joint meeting of the concerned JAC, the bereaved family, TDC and the Chief Minister.
The State Government has agreed to pay ex-gratia of Rs one lakhs and a Government job to the next of kin of the deceased.
Apart from the Chief Minister, TDC also hailed Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar for his monetary donation to the bereaved family.
