Seminar on Myth and Oral Tradition held

A two-day National Seminar on the theme " Myth and Oral Tradition as sources of Reconstructing History: A Special reference to North East India" organized by department of History, Don Bosco College, Maram which was co-sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), NERC, was conducted on October 20 and 21. The Inaugural session was attended by Dr..NLokendra Singh, Registrar, Manipur University, Prof Salam Irene, HOD, Dept.
of History, Manipur University and Rev.Fr.(Dr.) K.O Sebastian, Rector and Principal, DBC, Maram, as the chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, N.Lokendra Singh stressed on the need of the oral account of human existence in reconstructing history of the different ethnic communities of the North East Region and Manipur in particular.
Prof.Salam Irene, who was the guest of honour, delivered a speech emphasizing on the various steps of writing history.
Delivering the speech as guest of honour, Rev.Fr Dr.K.O Sebastian stated categorically the four stages of History of North East India.
He also emphasized on the importance of the oral tradition of various tribes in reconstructing the History of North East India.
The keynote address on the theme was delivered by Dr.Anthony Kaba, Asst.
Professor, Dept.
of History, DBC, Maram.
The inaugural function was concluded with the words of appreciation from Mr.Lungailin Gangmei, the Convener and HOD, Dept.
of History, DBC, Maram.
