Imphal, June 21 2012:
The nine-day Rath Yatra festival known in the local parlance as 'Kang Chingba' has commenced from today with chariot processions of Lord Jaganath, Lord Balarama and Subhadra taken out at various localities in the valley areas.
The main events of the Hindu festival were held at Govindajee Temple and ISKCON Temple complexes.
The chariot of ISKCON temple was flagged-off by Home Minister Gaikhangam this afternoon.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai Devi was also present at the occasion.

Devotees in large number joined priests of Govindajee Temple in drawing the chariot from near the temple upto Palace Gate and back to the starting point, the ISKCON chariot was drawn along the Tiddim Line till Keishampat Junction from the ISKCON temple.
People offered seasonal fruit and vegetables to the deities.
