Lamka, January 18, 2012:
A Chinese hand grenade was lobbed inside the residence of GS Haupu, the INC candidate of Singngat AC tonight at around 6 pm but failed to explode.
The grenade that landed on the first storey verandah of the candidate's residence located at Lailam Veng appeared to be the terrace that holds the maximum number of people inside the compound.
"It was exactly 6.20 pm when we heard a blast that appeared like the sound of a gun shot just above our heads," said one of the many people who were seated around a Meiphu on the terrace.
The ammunition of the grenade had apparently burst though its metal-layers failed to explode.
As the only gate of the residence was opened and there were people loitering around the area when the grenade landed, the attacker seemed to have lobbed it from the side of the building where there are other residences.
The candidate Ginsuanhau alias GS Haupu was out of station at the time of attack.
It is worth mentioning that the KNLD has imposed a ban on INC candidates on Chandel and Churachandpur district.
