Imphal, September 16 2020:
The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), Manipur has urged all to refrain from carrying out activities in Meetei shrines which are not parts of meetei faith in future.
A press release issued by KKL secretary-general, Ngamkheingakpa Luwang said that performing rituals in Meetei shrines at Thong Nambonbi and in other places which are not recognised by the Meetei faith should be stopped, forthwith.
Urging the State Government to change the name of Meetei shrines with historical significance which have been altered to its original form without delay, KKL asserted that they will alter the names if the Government fails to do so.
KKL also stated that changing the name of different localities in the State to different names by people who are new to the places is akin to mocking the kings who have ruled the State.
The lup further demanded the State Government to rename the localities to its original form whose names also have been altered over time.
KKL will launch intense agitation if the demands are not entertained.
Saying that 92 percent of the Manipur land is covered by hill areas and only 8 percent is valley, KKL urged all to stop selling lands to outsiders to save the indigenous people.
KKL further urged chairmen/chiefs of remote villages in hill areas to check outsiders erecting temples, changing the name of places to non-native languages at their respective villages.
Meetings were also convened on September 7 and 11 over the matter in the presence of Senior Journalist Yambem Laba, members of Chamber of Commerce, Sanatan Mandir, Bengali Samaj, Hindustani Samaj, Thakurbari Mandir, Jain Community and people of different communities residing near Khwairamband Keithel.
