Abducted drivers rescued

A team of Thoubal district police today rescued two abducted drivers of the ABCI Pvt Ltd, who were reportedly abducted from Somrei village under Yairipok PS in Ukhrul district on March 2, from Chaningpokpi village under Senapati district around 6.30am.Police brought JCB driver Debasish Mandal (35) S/o Shyamsunder Mandal of West Bengal and Roller driver Ch Ajit Singh (27) S/o Ch Arun Singh of Assam's Cachar district to Yairipok PS after securing their release from the clutch of the abductors at Chaningpokpi village, around 20 Kms East of Yairipok PS today.
Speaking to reporters, OC of Yairipok PS, Inspector Keisham Dhananjoy Singh said that based on a specific input, a team of Thoubal PS under the captaincy of OC Thoubal Police Commando, Ch Anandakumar Singh and under the supervision of the district SP, K Radhashyam Singh, conducted a search operation at Chaningpokpi village this morning.
On learning that security forces have rushed to the village, the abductors let go of the drivers and fled the village evading arrest, the OC said.
The two drivers were found near the residence of the village chief, Seikholam Khongsai.
Although no signs of physical assault and torture are found on the two drivers, their statement would be obtained to help the police investigation, he added.
The two drivers were reportedly abducted from Somrei village in the wee hours of March 2 .
Meanwhile, Dillipkumar, Senior GM (Project) of ABCI Pvt Ltd, a firm engaged in the construction of Thoubal-Kasom Khullen road, said that two of its drivers are released because of the joint efforts of the police and the public.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang (TNAL) has withdrawn its proposed 48 hours bandh which was earlier scheduled to begin from midnight of March 11 with the safe release of the abducted drivers.
A statement issued by the TNAL thanked all concerned for the help in securing the release of the abducted drivers while appreciating the police and army for their timely intervention.
