Only 5 teachers for one high school: JAC

Imphal, February 10 2020: The Joint Action Committee Ching-Tam High School Yaingangpokpi, has raised doubts if only five teachers will be able to effectively run the Government High School in the area.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the convenor of the JAC Ch Sanayai said that there are no other high school except the Ching-Tam High School Yaingangpokpi for the people who are settled further away from Lamlai.

Pointing out that Yaingangpokpi has another primary school, apart from the high school, he explained that in the past, the two schools used to have the needed number of teachers and students.

However due to the failure of the Government to implement its policies as well as transfer of teachers, the schools began deteriorating.

Now the primary school has only three teachers while the Ching-Tam High School has only five, he lamented.

Informing that the high school has 130 students in total, he said that earlier, the school had seven teachers.

On July 7, 2018, the school Headmaster wrote to the Education (S) to provide more teachers but to no avail.

A similar application was again sent on July 30 last year.

However, not long after, one of the teachers of the high school was transferred to Pukhao.

Disappointed with the action of the authorities, several complaints were made to the ZEO concerned and the Education (S), he added.

He continued that Lamlai A/C MLA even accompanied the JAC members and met the Education Minister but no teachers were sent to the school.

The convenor said that 25 students of the high school are going to appear this year's HSLC examination but the severe lack of teachers has caused immense inconveniences.

Due to lack of options, the 25 students are being coached by a private teacher, he added.

The matter was even brought to the notice of the Chief Minister on a Meeyamgi Numit programme but no positive results came out.

Owing to the neglect of the Government and the authorities concerned, the JAC has decided that if no teachers are provided for the school by February 12, the Ching-Tam High School will be locked down indefinitely, he cautioned.

The JAC convenor strongly condemned the State Education Department for trying to sideline its responsibility by providing some mid day meals to the students, instead of working to improve the academic atmosphere and bring positive change.

"We do not want free meals for the students nor free uniforms.

We demand education for the students immediately," he concluded.
