Imphal, May 07 2019:
Alleging that one of the three executives of KSO Gunpi Block, who were picked by police in connection with the arson at St Joseph's Higher Secondary School (Sugnu), has been hospitalised due to inhumane torture by the police, KSO Chandel has vehemently condemned the treatment meted out to the arrested individuals in the name of investigation.
Speaking to media persons at KSO GHQ, Kuki Inn today evening, KSO Chandel president Thangjalun Haokip said that in connection with the fire at St Joseph school on April 25, police picked up two executives of KSO Gunpi Block identified as David Lamminlen Baite and Thangkhanlal Haokip.
Another executive, identified as Peter Mangkhohao Lhungdim who has been staying in Imphal for the past two three months was also picked up by police shortly afterwards.
Alleging that the three individuals have been tortured and intimidated to wrongfully admit to setting the school on fire, the KSO president claimed that Peter was even rushed to the hospital due to the injuries sustained in police custody.
Strongly condemning the inhumane torture meted out to the arrested individuals, he explained that KSO Gunpi Block had even issued a statement on May 2 clarifying that it had no links with the fire.
Pointing out that KSO is always ready to offer support in; the investigation of the fire, Thangjalun said that on the other hand, KSO will never accept such actions of the authorities against its members.
Ever since the school burned down, KSO has become the scapegoat and its reputation is also hanging on the line, he added.
He then demanded all the three arrested individuals to be released unconditionally as they have not been established as guilty even till date.
If they are not released, KSO Chandel will launch agitation at the State level, he said.
On the other hand, the inhumane torture of Peter has already been reported to KSO GHQ, he added.
