Imphal, September 06 2021:
A sit in protest was staged at Irawat Bhawan today against the exorbitant price hike of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.
The protest was jointly organised by Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council, All Manipur Nupi Marup, All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and Manipur Loumi Lup.
Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary of All Manipur Nupi Marup, L Sumati alleged that the incumbent BJP led Central and State Government is an anti-people's Government.
She continued that amid the trying times of COVID-19 pandemic, steep price hike of petrol, diesel and cooking gas have added more woes to the hardships of the people and she denounced such inconsiderate measures of the Government.
If the incumbent State Government is a people centric one, then the Govt should reduce the State Tax on petrol and diesel instead of reducing only 4 rupees and claiming that the Govt is working in the interest of the people, she added.

Talking about the effects of rising prices of diesel, she said that the farmers of the State are unable to carry out the agricultural activities which is really unfortunate.
She maintained that the steep price hike of fuels will ultimately increase the price of essential commodities making it difficult for the poor and needy to sustain themselves.
Sumati also alleged that such measures are taken up by the BJP Government for the benefit of the elite classes and large companies.
Therefore in the interest of the general public and to alleviate their hardships, she urged that the Government should roll back the rising prices of petroleum products at the earliest.
In today's protest, placards with slogans like-'Reduce the price of petrol and diesel and cooking gas', 'Do not starve the poor' etc were used.
