Irom Sharmila who has been fasting against the infamous Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for the last 12 years but charged with attempting to commit suicide by a Delhi Court has been flown back to Imphal today.
Irom Sharmila who alighted from an Air India flight in a wheel-chair at Tulihal Airport lamented that she was charged by a Delhi for attempting to commit suicide.
She stated that she was protesting against the draconian Act in the most nonviolent manner.
Sharmila who was produced before the Court of Patiala House Metropolitan Magistrate at Delhi yesterday was asked to come to the same Court on May 22 .
From the airport, Sharmila was taken to JNIMS security ward in an ambulance by a team of Imphal West commandos.
When Justice JS Verma Committee sought the State Government's opinions and comments regarding AFSPA and violence against women, the State Government gave no response.
The State Government started preparing a report only in mid February whereas Justice JS Verma Committee's report was already published on January 23, informed a source.
