Bandh disrupts normal life across State

The 24 hour state-wide bandh imposed by the JAC Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai largely affected normal life across the State on Monday.
Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi, was abducted and killed on September 22 while he had gone to attend a function at Tamenglong where a programme was held in connection with Chief Minister N Biren's visit to the district.
Denouncing the cold blooded murder of Athuan Abonmai by armed miscreants, protest and demonstrations were staged by a large number of civil society organisations, students' bodies, etc in different parts of the State.
Bandh supporters blocked the streets, shops and business establishments remained closed and all inter and intra-state passenger services were also cancelled.

Speaking to media persons on the matter, Women Association for Socio Economic Development (WASED) secretary, Yumnam Raghini Devi stated that the people of Jiribam have come out in numbers to protest the cold blooded muder of Athuan Abonmai and urged the Chief Minister to expedite the matter and award befitting punishment to all involved.
Democratic Students Alliance Of Manipur, Jiribam District Council president, L Bilaksh Meitei also expressed support for the JAC Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai and warned of intensified agitation if the Government failed to punish the culprits at the earliest.
In Yairipok Tampha Keithel, a sit-in was also staged demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai by Meira Paibis and women vendors of Yairipok Keithel.
AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA Thoubal also came out in support of the 24 hour bandh and staged protests demanding justice for Athuan Abonmai.
In Moreh, Meetei Council Moreh, AMSU Tengnoupal District Committee and Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup also carried out a candlelight vigil in front of Meetei Council Moreh office in support of the JAC's demand for justice.
