Imphal, February 03 2021:
Expressing concern over fare hike, People Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC-19) has urged all the transport associations and unions to take requisite actions to reduce the travel fare to the amount taken in pre-Covid days.
In a statement, the task force also urged the Transport Directorate to make its stand clear to the passenger service providers pertaining to this fare issue.
According to PTFC-19, the Transport Directorate, on January 31 last, directed the passenger service providers to reduce the transport cost.
The order also urged the passenger and the drivers to compulsorily wear face masks, possess hand sanitizers and maintain safe distance when travelling to reduce the risk of Covid transmission.
"Following months of lockdown and curfew, passenger service resumed activity with slight improvement of Covid conditions in the State.
However, passengers and drivers alike seldom obey the special operating procedure laid down by the Govt for safety," the statement continued.
Claiming that the passenger service providers are charging fares as per their fancy, PTFC-19 asserted that this sudden hike of travel fare amid this difficult time is unreasonable.
The authority concerned of the Transport Directorate also seems to be not paying much attention to this issue, which is troubling students and civilians who commute on public transport regularly, the statement charged.
