Imphal, April 01 2016 :
Displaced women vendors of New market and Luxmi bazar are likely to begin selling their wares at the newly constructed temporary market shed behind Johnstone Higher Secondary School from April 3 .
Allocation/distribution of vending space at the newly constructed market shed would be done from 8 am on the day, said Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Chairperson Aribam Nimai Sharma while speaking to reporters at his office chamber today.
Ever since New market and Luxmi bazar suffered damage in a devastating earthquake on January 4 this year, women vendors of these two Ima Keithels have been selling their wares on road sides and under BT flyover, he said.
Considering the inconvenience faced by these vendors, the State Government constructed the temporary market shed to accommodate them.
Although, the market shed was inaugurated on March 11 by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar in the presence of Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, allocation of vendor space was delayed due to some reasons, he said.
After a wait for a couple of weeks, the State Government has finally given the permission of shifting the women vendors of these two Ima Keithels to the newly constructed market shed today, he said.
However, he requested the Chief Minister to allow commencement of allocation process from April 3 as IMC has to take up all possible measures to avoid disputes, he said.
The Chairperson urged the women vendors to turn up on time and extend co-operation to IMC in finalising sitting arrangement at the newly constructed market shed.
He also said that IMC would not entertain the complaints of those vendors who fail to come on April 3.Saying that the space to be provided by the Government may not be satisfactory to the vendors, Nimai urged them to manage with the available space as the new market shed is just a temporary arrangement.
He also said that IMC has been considering all sorts of measures to avoid dispute and dissatisfaction at the time of allocation/distribution of vending space.
