Imphal, October 31 2016:
Stating that the ongoing crisis within Manipur University is due to the petty politicking of some elements, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur today asserted that the BJP led Government at the Centre has been instigating some of the ethicless MU teachers.
Citing reasons for their observation, the student body in a statement that this is clear from the fact that MU was without a regular VC for a long period of time and added that despite the standing instruction of the Secretary of UGC to follow the CEI (reservation in admission) amendment Act of 2012, despite the instruction from the Deputy Secretary (CU) of the Union HRD Ministry to stall the admission process in MU, despite the High Court of Manipur issuing orders on October 1 last year and again on October 26 this year to follow the CEI (reservation in admission) amendment Act of 2012, some teachers of MU have been standing against these directives.
Despite this reality, the BJP led Government at the Centre has not deemed it fit to take up any action, said DESAM and added that is a clear example that the Centre is not bothered about whether MU goes to the dogs or not but is more interested in the coming Assembly election.
The deep divide between different communities in Manipur is due to the double speak of the BJP, alleged DESAM and added that it is under the agenda to increase the admission quota of some elements and to contest the next MUSU election that the unfortunate incident of October 29 happened at MU.
Naming ten persons for misleading the MU students and being involved in ransacking the office rooms of some teachers, DESAM said that Romen Soibamcha (Dept of Physical Edn and Sports Science), Salam Romen (research scholar, dept of statistics), Hemam Rickey (teacher education), Mayanglambam Prakash (research scholar, dept of education), Khundrakpam Sylvia (dept of life science), Birbal (dept of chemistry), Johnson (dept of mathematics), Mocha (dept of political science) and Saratchandra Haobijam (dept of physics) should clarify themselves before the public.
The student body also named some teachers of MU for being in cahoots with the ten named persons and said that they are Prof Ch Priyoranjan (Dept of economics), Prof MC Arun (Anthropology), Asst Prof Dr N Sanatomba (Manipuri dept) .
The MU authority too has not been discharging its duties diligently, said DESAM and added that the State police too have been misled by them.
The State Home Department ought to look into this, it added.
On the October 29 incident, DESAM said that formal permission was sought from the MU authority to host the students who have been elected in the college elections recently.
As is done normally, permission to use the Centenary Hall of MU was taken in the name of the secretary of social and culture of MUSU.
This is the practise followed by all other organisations too, said DESAM.
When the students started arriving at MU, they were barred entry at the main gate at the behest of the persons, already named here, alleged DESAM.
From inside the MU gate, they taunted the college students and DESAM using crude and unparliamentary language, alleged the student body.
Incensed with the way they were treated, the college students barged their way through, said DESAM and added that "all evidences are with us" .
The October 29 incident would not have occurred if the college students had been allowed to proceed to their destination without any hindrance, said DESAM.
All the ills afflicting MU, such as the divide amongst some of the SC students, the division between the tribal students and others, the declining relationship between the students and teachers, the lack of academic atmosphere, are all due to the petty politicking of some teachers of MU, alleged the student body.
It is wrong to paralyse MU due to the machination of some elements, said DESAM and added that all should follow the Acts/rules while implementing the reservation policy.
