Dimapur/Senapati, June 30 2013:
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), as its part of supporting the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) sponsored 12-hour bandh in 'Naga areas' on July 1 (Monday) has announced that it will impose a bandh in 'Naga areas' of Manipur.
The NSF announced a bandh from 6 am to 6 pm in 'Naga areas' on Monday to express strong resentment against the incessant clashes and killings amongst the underground factions, imposi- tion of illegal taxation by the Naga undergrounds, against all arbitrary harassment and threatening the lives of innocent civilians and also the recent attempt on life of federation official.
The NSF has also taken strong exception to the life attempt on one of its functionary Christopher Angami by one of the cadres of a Naga underground outfit in Kohima.
Meanwhile, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) while strongly condemning the attempt to shoot NSF leader Christopher Angami in the factional clash incident that happened on June 25 at lower Chandmari at Kohima, has also decided to fully endorse the 12 hours total bandh called in all Naga inhabitated areas on July 1 .
SDSA in a vocal note stated that, such life attempt on a student leader by armed groups is unacceptable and condemned in strongest term.
It also appealed that Naga armed factions to abstain from clashes and safeguard the safety of the general public.
Advising the groups to pursue a peaceful resolution in their problems, the SDSA added that, such unfortunate incident will only harm the hard earned reconciliation process of all the Naga armed groups.
The SDSA in special reference to the total bandh to be imposed on July 1 has stated that, it will effectively enforce the said bandh in its jurisdiction to show its solidarity to the cause of the NSF and for general interest of the students' community.
It has also appealed to the general public to extend maximum support to the bandh and warned that, any violation of the said bandh will be on their own risk.
