People's convention on 'Congregation of CSOs of Manipur' held

A one day people's convention on 'Congregation of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Manipur' was held today at the City Convention Centre today.
The people's convention was organised by the Federation of Civil Society Organisations, Manipur.
Delivering the keynote address, secretary of the Federation, A Punil Kumar stated that the people's convention has been organised after considering the recommendations of different CSOs of the State.
He further informed that the objective of the convention is to spread awareness to make collective efforts for a developed economy of Manipur without depending on the sanctions or any form of assistance from the Central Government.
The State will not be developed until and unless the State has a progressive and self-reliant economy, he added.
Social activist Thounaojam Brinda while speaking at the occasion expressed concern over the absence of the concept of seed sovereignty in today's society.
Stating that globalization has engulfed today's generation, she said that farmers have discarded indigenous practices and resorted to new techniques of using fertilizers and pesticides which have adverse effects on one's health.
Dr Arambam Noni, Assistant Professor of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) , Associate Professor, Manipur University, Dr Moirangthem Hemanta Meitei, former Additional Director of Agriculture ,MS Khaidem, president of Federation of CSOs Manipur ,Th Manihar and village elders of different villages across the State spoke on different topics in the convention.
