Imphal, May 30 2011:
The 11 Semi Low-floor buses that have been provided to Manipur by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India under its Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission are set to be entrusted to a private firm run and manage them.
According to a reliable source, the Transport Department had issued a tender bid to ensure that the service of the 11 Semi low-floor buses, which are still lying inside the MST complex at Moirangkhom, can be started at the earliest possible after handing them over to a private firm.
However, as some changes in the operative part of the tender bid issued by the Transport Department were essential, the matter was subsequently referred to the Public Works Department.
When the necessary changes are made, an open tender would be announced for selection of a qualified firm to start the service, the source disclosed, adding that the service is expected to kick off within a month's time.
The revenue to be collected from the services of the 11 Semi low-floor buses would be shared between the Government and the private firm, the source said.
