The woeful condition of the Imphal-Saikul road is set for a sea change as Rs 2.50 crore has been released for repairing/black topping of the said route.
Disclosing the development while speaking at the inauguration function of the newly constructed Kuki Inn in his Saikul constituency today, MLA Doukhomang Khongsai said that maintenance work had already begun.
he expressed satisfaction that his promise to the people of Saikul during election rallies to prioritise development of the Imphal-Saikul road is now on the verge of complete fulfilment.
Out of the total amount of Rs 2.5 crore earmarked for the road link, Rs 1.5 crore would be utilised for developing the Khundrakpam-Purum Liklikhong stretch and the remaining reserved for Purum upto Saikul, detailed the Saikul AC legislator.
Exuding confidence of completing the road development programme within this year, Doukhomang conveyed happiness that on completion people traversing on this route would no more endure hardships as was normally associated while travelling along the pot-hole dotted road.
Stating that he submitted proposals for construction of three bridges along the Imphal-Saikul road to the State Government, Doukhomang conveyed of the Government including one in the work programme of the current fiscal which will be coming up at near Morkon.
An official team of the State PWD comprising of an Executive Engineer and a Section Officer accompanied the MLA for an inspection tour today morning, he continued.
Presently a bailey bridge connects either side of the river.
In the meantime, construction of the new building of kuki inn, Saikul began since 2004 and was completed last year at an estimated cost of Rs 5,51,358.of the total cost, the MLA is learnt to have contributed Rs 1 lakh with 120 village chiefs under the Saikul Kuki Inpi chipping in their mite financially and materially.
Reminding the gathering of the multi-ethnic composition of Saikul assembly constituency's population with the Kukis as the dominant community, the MLA prevailed upon the majority people to foster healthy relationships amongst the all the communities and ensure that no action or comment are made that could hurt sentiment of others.
As a part of the inauguration ceremony, red blankets were presented to the 120 village chiefs by the MLA before officially kicking off a seminar on National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for the village chiefs in the afternoon.
in his brief address as the chief guest, Doukhomang urged the local public to closely monitor development work and fund released under the Scheme so that previous perception of blaming the Government, Ministers/MLAs and bureaucrats for lack of welfare initiatives do not resurface.
He also announced that work under the said Scheme would commence from April first week.
