Imphal, June 29 2012:
While welcoming the initiatives taken up by the CAF & PD department in announcing the distribution of rice at 10 parking areas of Imphal in an attempt to ease the problem faced by the public, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) questioned the mechanism in which the rice would be made available to the people.
In a statement, publicity secretary of MPP said the assurance of the minister may convince the public that making the PDS items available at parkings would not only serve as the antidote to check price hike of essential items, but it is very unfortunate for the people to have a Government which makes promises without any delivery.
The MPP statement questioned how can a labourer wait in queue for a long time to get 15 kgs of rice when he is in a position to starve if he fails to work for a day.
The statement suggested that instead of distributing the items at bus parkings, it would be prudent to distribute them at their respective locality regularly through agents elected by the locals instead of distributing through agents nominated by the MLA.
