Minor girl 'raped', accused flees

In yet another incident of crime against women and child in the State, a minor victim was allegedly raped by a 37 year old man at Patsoi part II today .
According to the locals, the incident came to light after one of the cousin sister of the victim revealed about the heinous crime committed by the accused, Chongtham Anand (37) s/o (L) Yaima of Patsoi Part II, upon the minor girl on October 25 at around 11.30 am .
The locals said that on the day of the incident, the accused, taking advantage of the absence of the victim's parents, went inside the residence of the victim where she along with the cousin sister were watching television and asked for a glass of water .
As soon as the victim girl went to get the water, the accused followed her and allegedly raped her .
The act was witnessed by the victim's cousin sister, who also happened to be a minor, and the accused allegedly threatened to kill both the minors if they ever disclose the incident to anyone .
The locals pointed out that the victim's cousin sister narrated the whole ordeal only yesterday and the victim's family lodged a complaint to Patsoi police station .
Soon after the incident came to light, the accused fled from the locality and other family members of the accused, including his wife and three children also left their home.
An emergency meeting was held regarding the incident, today at the community hall of the locality and condemning the heinous crime committed by the accused upon the minor, the locals decided to banish the accused and his family members from the locality .
The case has been transferred from Patsoi police station to Imphal West women police station .
Medical examinations of the victim girl were conducted today at RIMS and police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused who is on the run.
