AR conducts flood relief camps

Taking into account hardships faced by the people due to flooding of vast tract of residential areas as well as agricultural land, the 27 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector established flood relief assistance camps on July 23 at Nungu, Khongjom and Chairel villages in Sugnu area of Thoubal district.
A major portion of these areas were submerged under flood waters leading to displacement of a substantial number of local people to relief shelters, said a PRO IGAR (S) release adding that preventive measures are being carried out to avert outbreak of water borne diseases such as Diarrhoea, Cholera, Anaemia, Dengue and Dermatological problems.
The AR unit has also provided medical assistance to many critically ill patients, affected by floods in Sugnu area .

an elderly lady who was suffering from Anaemia and Chronic Dysentery, requiring urgent medical attention but owing to serious flood situation in Khongjom village her family could not provide medical aid, maintained the PRO.
It is informed that medical team of 27 Assam Rifles reached the flood affected site on July 23 and realizing gravity of the situation administered her immediate life saving medical aid by administering intravenous lifeline with TPR monitoring and stabilized her condition.
The troops have also provided kerosene and ration to the flood-affected families and drinking water is being supplied to various relief camps established in the area for the last four days.
Even as the unit affirmed its commitment to continue with all possible assistance as long as regular facilities are restored, the local people, various NGOs and the civil administration have conveyed their gratitude for this humanitarian gestures, it added.
It is pertinent to add that various residential and agricultural areas in the valley districts are under flood waters caused by incessant rainfall in the last few days.
