Imphal, July 24 2015 :
Responding to the resolutions adopted by JCILPS during the public meeting held yesterday, the State Government held an emergency meeting today afternoon wherein members of the Drafting Committee joined in and held detailed discussions on the possible steps that the Government may take up.
Cabinet Ministers were also present at the meeting.
The meeting, which was held at the CM's Bungalow, went on from 4 pm to 6.30 pm.
The meeting discussed, in detail, the resolutions that were taken in the public meeting yesterday and the key-points put forward by the JCILPS to be included in the proposed new Bill.
The meeting agreed on including the demands of the people and the wish of the committee, but added that issuing a 'written assurance' will be problematic to the formalities of the Government.
Accordingly, the Cabinet members and the Drafting Committee appealed to the JCILPS to believe in the efforts of the Government and to come to the negotiating table.
Regarding another major demand i.e suspension of police personnel involved in the death of Sapam Robinhood, the meeting assured that those involved will be punished accordingly (likely suspension), as the Judicial Inquiry has been set up and the Government is genuinely interested in delivering justice to the deceased student and family member by punishing the wrongdoers.
