Chandel, June 24 2020:
Naga Students Union Chandel (NSUC) has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the handling of inmates in quarantine centre in the district.
Blaming the district administration for the huge jump in the number of cases in Chandel with as many as 21 detected in a single day recently, NSUC in a statement alleged that the inmates were exposed to virus due to prolonged stay in the quarantine centre opened at United College Lambung.
It also claimed that 17 returnees tested COVID-19 positive in one day after being tested negative twice.
The inmates were made to stay there for more than 20 days and they were exposed to the virus and got infected in the process, it said adding that the management authority should strictly follow and implement the quarantine SOPs.
Alleging that 26 returnees from Bangalore were "forced" to share a room and toilet, NSUC questioned how social distancing could be maintained when about 30 people are tucked in 3 rooms.
Further urging the State Government to publicly disclose the funds sanctioned for the district so far for combating the COVID-19 pandemic, NSUC also denounced the DC Chandel for frequently "ignoring" suggestions given by the civil society organisations.
