Drugs seized

Imphal, September 23 2022:
A combined team of Special Commando Unit Khabeisoi, Anti Smuggling Unit Imphal Customs Division and Customs Preventive Force, Moreh seized 175 soap cases containing 2086 gram of brown sugar from Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai yesterday.
Reportedly, the seized drug is worth over Rs 3 crore in the international market.
According to sources, the combined team rushed to Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai on receiving inputs about the presence of some drug smugglers there and carried out house to house search operations.
The team seized the brown sugar while searching a rented room belonging to Mutum Amuchou of Kontha Ahallup Mayai Leikai but the owner of the drug (the tenant) escaped from the scene, said the sources.
After interrogation, it was found that Muhammad Rafique Kutti (45), c/o Muhammad Abdul Jalil of Moreh Ward no 3 and his wife Zenth (38) of Phaijam Veng, Bidna Part �II have been occupying the room since the past few days until their escape.
The team picked up the owner of the room Mutum Amuchou and handed him over to the Customs Department.
On interrogation, Mutum Amuchou said that he had no knowledge of his tenants hoarding the drugs in the room he rented.
Later, the brown sugar was taken to the office of the Customs Division Imphal and a case has been registered under the relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act 1985 .
