Ukhrul, May 23 2017:
Govt run schools Mapum High School, Zingsui Jr High School and Chammu Govt High School under Sahamphung SDC block, Ukhrul were found in pitiful state and left to their own fate with no one taking charge.
Not just the regular teacvhing but even the heads of all these institutions were found staying away for their place of posting without attending to their work during the current academic session.
Many of the teachers have resorted to appointing proxy teachers to stand in for them by paying some percentage of their salaries.
During an interaction, some of the proxy teachers said that they have been entrusted with the task of running the schools from the heads concerned of the schools on 'look after' basis.
Some of the teachers were also engaged by the local village authority for the time being to ensure functioning of the schools.
The proxy teachers added that some of the institutional heads concerned saty at the district headquarters on the ground that they have some more 'important work' there.
The heads visit only when their presence is mandatory.
This matter came to light during a surprise visit conducted by Yangmi Shimray Councillor of 17 Chatric DCC, Ukhrul along with a team of Ukhrul journalists.
No headmasters or teaching staff were found at the schools during the time of inspection.
The engaged substitute teachers revealed that their monthly cut range from (Rs 4000 to Rs 6000) according to their qualification.
Takling strong exception to the matter, the Councillor made it clear that the teachers would not be let off lightly and assured that fitting action will be taken up against them.
Th Councillor also noted all the verbal complaints and cases of the villagers and assured that a fitting report will be submitted to the Education Department.
At Mapum High School only 5 teachers out of the 17 posted there were found present.
A similar scene was also also seen aty Zingsui Jr.
High School and Chammu Govt School.
None of the teachers appointed from RMSA and SSA were found stationed at the villages.
Many young boys and girls have shifted to other places in search of better education.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh had earlier announced that Government employees must stationed in their respective place of posting during his maiden visit at Ukhrul on April 11 .
