Several Naga NGOs have demanded repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act 1958 from the North Eastern States.
Representatives of Naga Mothers Association, Naga Hoho, Naga Students Federation, Nagaland Bar Association and others yesterday held a series of discussions with members of AFSPA Review Committee during the the latter's visit to Nagaland and favoured repeal of the Act.
Panel members, including Lt Gen (Rtd) V R Raghavan, S B Nakade and journalist Sanjay Hazarika, told newsmen that the general desire of the people of Nagaland was against the continuation of the Act.
The members also held discussions with State Government officials.
The Naga insurgency in the 1950s was the genesis of this controversial Act which had come into force in other States of the region later.
