Imphal, December 22 2017:
Jiribam district being a valley, all the people living in surveyed areas of the district where pattas have been issued need not pay hill house tax, Revenue Minister Karam Shyam stated in the Manipur Legislative Assembly today in response to a query raised by Dr Chaltonlien Amo .
Jiribam district is 235 sq Kms in area and 57 revenue villages of the district have been surveyed .
Pattas have been issued for all the areas surveyed and people living in such areas need not pay hill house tax.
That was why, the Jiribam DC issued an order whereby payment of hill house tax was terminated .
No one has the right to prevent land survey and there is no question of revoking the DC's order, Karam Shyam stated .
Noting that some people have been paying hill house tax in areas already surveyed, Chief Minister N Biren remarked that there are some loopholes somewhere .
Saying that the Government would plug in the loopholes, Biren asserted that imposition of double tax is not admissible.
Responding to a query raised by Md Abdul Nasir, IFC Minister Letpao Haokip clarified that there is no specific instruction for quarrying earth for reinforcement of river banks.
He further informed that Rs 10.80 lakh has been sanctioned for this year's floods.
