Rani Gaidinliu's birth centenary observed in New Delhi ; RS Prasad lauds heroic efforts

The birth centenary of Rani Gaidinliu cum Indigenous Cultural Festival has begun at Talkitara Stadium, New Delhi this evening.
The inaugural programme was attended by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Telecom and IT, Government of India, PB Acharya, Governor of Assam & Nagaland, Th Chaoba Singh, President, BJP, Manipur Pradesh, Ashnikumar Singh, BJP Manipur General Secretary (Adm), Maithiupuang Golmei, Assistant Registrar, IGNOU, New Delhi as the chief guest, president and special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Ravi Shankar Prasad lauded the heroic efforts of freedom fighters of Manipur and Nagaland especially Rani Gaidinliu who was a great freedom fighter of the country.
"The Central Government under the leadership of Narendra Modi has initiated various developmental projects in the North East Region.
We are committed to the development of the region.
I hope that Manipur, being a land of jewel, will prosper and achieve an overall development," the Minister said.
Ravi Shankar Prasad added that the Centre would provide possible assistance in order to fulfil the aspirations of North East people.
He further said that he had visited Tamenglong district which is the home district of Rani Gaidinliu in the early 2000s and expressed desire to visit the State again and undertake necessary developmental projects.
The 2-day event was organised under the theme "Celebrating the Indomitable Spirit of Rani Gaidinliu".
More than 5000 people participated in the grand inaugural programme.
