Imphal, December 20 2017:
After a gap of around 11 years, bus service between Imphal and Jiribam resumed today with Transport Commissioner M Lakshmikumar flagging off the first trip from Imphal to Jiribam this morning .
Besides, a bus service between Imphal and Khou-pum will also be resumed within a couple of months .
According to B Dhanabir Sharma, secretary, United Bus Owners' Welfare Association, the Imphal-Jiribam bus service was resumed considering the public demand and the incumbent Government's vision and effort to improve inter-district connectivity in the State .

He said that four private buses each will be put into daily service for Imphal to Jiribam and Jiribam to Imphal trips simultaneously at 7 am, 8 am, 9 am and 10 am .
Conveying that the starting point at Imphal is ISBT, Khuman Lampak, the secretary maintained that Wa- hengbam Leikai and Baba Fish Centre, Sagolband Mei-no Leirak will be the two pick-up points for the buses travelling from Imphal to Jiribam for passengers' convenience .
The buses coming from Jiribam will begin their journey from Jiribam Bazar and end at the ISBT, Khuman Lampak, he added .
Asserting that more buses will be put into service if there are adequate passengers, Dhanabir sought public cooperation and requested all not to give any form of harassment to the bus drivers and owners .
Commissioner Lakshmikumar lauded the initiative taken up by Imphal-Silchar Road Bus Owners' Welfare Union and observed that active participation from the owners of private passenger vehicles will bring more support to the Government's vision to improve inter-district connectivity in the State in addition to benefiting the public .
He asserted that the Government is making efforts to provide public transportation services between Imphal and other districts/places including Jiribam and Khoupum .
The Commissioner also appealed private transporters not to solely emphasize on profit and make sincere efforts to improve connectivity in the State in conjunction with the Government' initiative .
Notably, the Imphal-Jiribam bus service had been halted since March 2006 owing to the dilapidated conditions of the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway.
The condition of the highway has improved to a great extent since the past few years.
