The month-long 'cleanliness and sanitation campaign, 2010' organised under the aegis Phungreitang East Youth Organisation concluded successfully today.
During the campaign, members of the youth organisation cleaned up the main road of Ukhrul town starting from DC office to Gandhi Chowk.
They also filled up the potholes and other sunken areas.
Moreover, the members beautified the Gandhi Chowk and its intersection point by painting it colourfully, putting up quotation boards and planting trees and flowers.
As part of the campaign, the youth organisation has also distributed dustbins among the shops with the instruction that the shop owners and general publish should throw their garbages in these RCC dustbins installed along the main road and violation of this instruction would lead to closure of shops for seven days and fine of Rs 500 as penalty.
The meat shops at Phungreitang area have also been warned against unhygienic practice of washing and cleaning the meat with drainage water.
Accordingly, a new water pipeline connection has been provided through PHED Ukhrul.
Expressing gratitude to all the departments and well-wishers who have extended their support during the campaign, the youth organisation has appealed to Small Town Committee, Ukhrul District Council for spraying DDT and Phenyl at dustbins so as to prevent outbreak of diseases in the town.
