Imphal, January 20 2021:
The Congress party will fight 'anti-people' policy of the present BJP-led Government in the Centre and the State and is ready to face all 'fascist' forces suppressing the voice of the people, said veteran Congress leader and CWC member Gaikhangam today.
The ex-Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the one day joint session of presidents of DCCs (District Congress Committees) and BCCs (Block Congress Committees) held at Congress Bhavan when he made the statement.
A booklet on achievements during the 15-year Congress rule from 2002 to 2017 was also published during the joint session.
Encouraging the presidents of the DCCs and BCCs, Gaikhangam said Congress is bound to return and those who have jumped ships to other parties will return knocking on the party's door.

"Leaves of trees fall and new shoots emerge again.
Green shoots of Congress will return bearing fruits and those who have left the party will come knocking on Congress' door.
One shouldn't think Congress is weak.
BJP is not worthy to challenge Congress," Gaikhangam said.
In the past BJP had very few MLAs, Ministers and MPs.
When it was erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh, there were only two MPs-Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani.
It had merged with the Janata Party realising that they won't be able to form Government alone, he said adding that the present BJP-led Governments at the Centre and the State will not last long.
He further asserted that the Congress party which has a solid foundation based on secularism and democracy is not led by a single person but by the party organisation.
When a party is led by and built on the image of a person, the party will lose its mark and disappear when the leader becomes weak or no more.
There have been many political parties which disappeared this way.
NPP has not yet disappeared but is the same as non-existent, he said.
Even though Congress is not in the Government, party workers should strengthen the party and keep in touch with all, from people who are the 'power house' to the highest leaders.
Congress should study its failures and work towards connecting with the common people, he said.
MLA Kh Joykisan said people are not happy with the BJP-led coalition Government.
More than 80 per cent of the comments made by netizens on social media platforms are about criticising the Government and its policies, he claimed, adding that "people want Congress to return" .
He also mentioned that when thousands had raised their voice against the CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill) when it was tabled in the Parliament, there were some of the same people who had protested CAB donning BJP caps during the election campaign held later.
Party workers should explore and study the plight of the people and work towards addressing them, he said urging party workers to unite and put in their best efforts in strengthening the party.
