Imphal, October 19 2020:
Saying that the 'National Sports University' imbroglio reflects premeditated attempts to 'marginalise' indigenous community, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) has called on all communities not to indulge in creating unnecessary tensions and differences.
STDCM, in a statement, said that the committee has been voicing for inclusion of Meetei or Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Indian Constitution under Article 342 (1) to ensure Constitutional protection.
However, taking advantage of being an unprotected indigenous section, some sections of the society who are already enjoying the Constitutional protections are at times trying to disrupt normalcy in the State and it is an 'undeniable fact', said STDCM.
The issue raised by these disruptors lacks authenticity, supporting facts and are mostly based on ego and hatred towards other people, it said while adding the Government at the same time is ignoring the genuine and rightful demand to protect the identity of the current and the coming generation of Meetei/Meitei community.
STDCM does not support any kind of enmity among communities in the State, it said while appealing all to act responsibly, cautiously and to ensure no one puts up a statement or a post on social media that could incite enmity and cause tensions.
STDCM has been standing for all indigenous communities and will continue.
