Question papers for Class XI found leaked : COHSEM cancels, reschedules remaining exams

In an incident which reveals the sordid state of the State's education sector, question papers set by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (COHSEM) for various subjects of the class XI Examination, 2020, have been leaked, going viral on social media, before the date of the examinations.
Following the leak, COHSEM has declared that the examination for the subjects/papers which are yet to be conducted, will be cancelled, announcing that it will set new questions and reschedule the examinations for the remaining subjects/papers.
Furthermore, COHSEM has also instructed all the OCs/Principals concerned of all the higher secondary schools/institutions affiliated to COHSEM to return the question papers of the yet to be conducted subjects, by February 24 .

It may be mentioned that this year's Class 11 examination under COHSEM, began from February 17 and was originally supposed to conclude on March 26 .
Speaking at COHSEM office at Babupara, its Chairman L Mahendra claimed that the council has concrete evidence regarding the leakage of class XI question papers for several subjects.
He explained that the question papers were set by COHSEM officials and then distributed to the OCs/Principals of the schools/institutions affiliated to the council only to be kept in their safe custodies till the examination date of the respective papers/subjects.
Mahendra also explained that the examination is being conducted and will be evaluated by the respective teachers of the schools/educational schools concerned.
Terming the incident as most unfortunate, he ensured that strict and swift actions will be taken up against those found guilty.
Informing that an emergency meeting of the council's examination committee was held today as soon as it received information of the leak, he said that COHSEM will investigate the matter at the earliest.
Mahendra further conveyed that a notification will be served to all the schools/educational institutions affiliated to COHSEM to return the question papers in their original forms as collected from the council, by February 24 .
"The OCs/Principals who do not comply with the notice will be dealt as the individuals who are mainly responsible for the leakage of the question papers", he warned.
The Chairman went on to inform that several resolutions/decisions have been taken in the emergency meeting, which include cancellation of the ongoing class XI examination for the remaining papers/subjects, rescheduling of the examination after setting new questions and taking actions against those found guilty after conducting thorough investigation.
When asked what kind of action will be taken up against the culprits, Mahendra replied that if any Government schools' authority is found guilty, the council will inform the Government to take up action against the individuals and institutions involved.
He added that affiliation to COHSEM will be permanently cancelled if any of the authorities from private institutions/schools are found guilty in the incident.
