Imphal, February 19 2017:
In connection with the ensuing 11th State Legislative Assembly election to be held in two phases on March 4 and 8, Director General of Election Commission of India (ECI) Sudeep Jain arrived in Imphal today to oversee the election preparedness.
Soon after his arrival, the ECI official who will stay in the State capital till February 22 held a meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, DCs and SPs at Classic Grande Hotel.
He will tour Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel in a helicopter tomorrow to review the election preparedness in the districts.
A full ECI team including Chief Election Commissioner, Nasim Zaidi would be arriving at Imphal on February 22.They would meet political parties to discuss matters related to the election.
A total of 168 candidates will be contesting in 38 Assembly Constituencies in the first phase election on March 4 .
For the second phase election, nomination papers of 97 candidates from 22 Assembly Constituencies have been okayed by the Returning Officers in the scrutiny.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is February 20 .
250 companies of Central Paramilitary forces would start arriving in the State from February 25 .
