Imphal, October 18 2016:
Continuing with its demand that Manipur University adopt the CEI Act as amended in 2012 in the admission of students to the varsity, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur has called a 24 hour total shut down in the hill districts of Manipur from 1 am of October 20 to 1 am of October 21 .
Even after this if there is no positive response from MU authority, rallies will be staged at the district headquarters of all the hill districts for five days, said ATSUM and added that the rally will be held at Chandel on October 21, Ukhrul October 22, Senapati October 23, Tamenglong October 24 and Churachandpur October 25 .
All the National projects will also be halted during the days the rally is held, said ATSUM in a statement.
This will be followed by economic blockade, warned the student body.
The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the district based student organisations convened by ATSUM on October 16 at its office.
The Thadou Students' Association has endorsed the shut down call of ATSUM and added that it fully supports the just demand of the tribal students in Manipur University to give the reservation proportionate to the tribal population in Manipur.
In a statement, the student body said it strongly condemns the decision of the Academic Council of MU to adopt the CEI Act of 2006 bypassing the amended CEI Act of 2012 .
