Kangpokpi, June 18 2021:
The Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) including Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students Union, in a statement strongly condemned the inhuman, unlawful and violent acts committed by some individuals at Pongringlong (Charoi Pandongba) village under Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
The most shocking thing was the violent acts were committed amidst the promulgation of 144 CrPC by the concerned Magistrates of Kangpokpi District and Longmai (Noney) district, it added.
ZCOs stated that the districts Magistrate of Kangpokpi and Longmei (Noney) issued prohibitory orders restricting the public movement of not more than four and five persons within the specified area one day ahead of the incident as pre-emptive measures to avert any kind of unlawful acts.
The district Magistrates sensing violent and unlawful acts following the JAC spearheading the incident have issued a circular informing the surrounding villages to depute youths and gather at Tupul bazar.
But the prohibitory orders in fact were a complete farce as 5 vehicles, houses and properties worth lakhs of rupees were burnt down in full view of the security forces and with the full knowledge of the Government, it alleged.
The incident could have been averted had the Government took necessary, suitable and appropriate action in accordance with the prohibitory orders, it added.
The ZCOs further mentioned that the degree of crime perpetrated upon the citizens is intolerable and unacceptable both in customary practices and legal purview therefore, the Government should not shirk away its duty and responsibility of taking up befitting action against the perpetrators as per law of the land at the earliest so that such violent acts does not happen again in future.
Besides, the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) also condemned the mob violence at Pongringlong village and expressed their resentment over the bias and violent activities of the so-called JAC.
RNYOM appealed to the Government and concerned CSOs to look into the matter and intervene immediately to deliver justice to the innocent victims.
RNYOM further warned of appropriate action against the perpetrators if all those involved in the incident are not booked and punished as per the law of the land at the earliest.
