State pays homage to Indo-Pak war martyrs

Joining other parts of the country, the State Government observed Vijay Diwas at the banquet hall of 1st Bn Manipur Rifles today.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam graced the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Okram Ibobi said that people of the country are paying homage to the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 .
Saying that these soldiers sacrificed their lives to defend the country from foreign aggression, the Chief Minister said that the war would remain as a significant chapter in the annals of the history of India.
Indian troops demonstrated before the world that any challenge to the integrity of the country would be neutralised befittingly, O Ibobi said.

Saying that the courage shown by the India soldiers would be remembered forever, the Chief Minister asserted that it is the responsi- bility of the people of the current generation to pay homage to the brave soldiers on the day.
He further said that Manipur would also not concede to any attempt which tries to break its integrity.
In his speech, Gaikhangam said that people still remember the courage of the Indian soldiers who fought the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 .
That is why, Vijay Diwas is being observed at every nook and corner of the country, he added.
Saying that it is the responsibility of every citizen to uphold the country's integrity, Gaikhangam said that anybody who tries to break the integrity of Manipur would not be forgiven as well.
Ministers, MLAs, DGP and high raking officials also attended the function.
Monetary assistance of Rs 10,000 each were provided to the families of the soldiers who laid down life in the war.
