Ghost of mob justice haunts back Tentha : 'Cremated' wife found with new partner
Source: The Sangai Express

Thoubal, April 16 2015 : This could be a perfect script for a Hollywood romantic thriller.

A husband, who had been ostracised by his native village on the charge of murdering his own wife, discovered her 'cremated' wife living with a new partner.

Konthoujam Naobi (19) d/o Konthoujam Ongbi Kunjarani of Tentha Marongband, Thoubal district was reported missing by her husband Laishram Chao-ba at Thoubal police station on August 22, 2011 after she went missing on August 18, 2011 .

About three days later, a dead body of a girl of her age was found floating near Ithai barrage and the family and relatives of Konthoujam Naobi claimed it as Naobi's body.

The family members and relatives then accused Nao-bi's husband Chaoba and his father-in-law Laishram Ibungo, who stayed at the same locality, of murdering their daughter and forcibly cremated the body in their courtyard.

Naobi's husband Laishram Chaoba however pleaded them not to cremate the body saying that it was not Naobi's body.

A hurriedly formed JAC instead of listening to Chao-ba's plea not only dismantled and burnt down his house but also ostracised the father-son duo.

Later, Chaoba along with his father Ibungo were hand-ed over to police, who took up a case against them.

They were however released on bail after some time.

Although, they were freed, the duo led a miserable life taking refuge at one of their relatives at Samaran village in Thoubal district.

In a shocking twist of tale, Chaoba came across his 'dead and cremated' wife living with a new partner at Nongdam Tangkhul village in Ukhrul district after three years.

What is even more surprising is that Naobi's mo- ther, Konthoujam Ongbi Kunjarani, who had charged Laishram Chaoba of murdering her daughter was also found staying together with her daughter, who now has a three-month-old baby.

Naobi's new partner has been identified as Tekcham Sanahal (30) s/o Inaobi of Keibi Heikak Mapal in Imphal East district.

Laishram Chaoba said that he discovered his ex-wife while tracing the whereabouts of his mother-in-law Kunjarani.

Chaoba said that he never believed that Naobi was dead.

Ever since he was released on bail, he started searching for Naobi's whereabouts, Chaoba said.

As Naobi's mother Kun-jarani remained out of station most of the time, Chaoba said, he was suspicious of her movements.

As such, he followed her with some of his friends leading to the discovery of Naobi.

Naobi was found staying in a rented room, provided by Nongdam Baptist Church, together with her new partner and mother.

It is said that Tekcham Sanahal works as mohori of a sand quarry at Nongdam Tangkhul village and Naobi also works at the quarry sometimes.

According to Sanahal, he met Naobi at Namphalong market at Moreh in 2013.He was the driver of a passenger vehicle which operated along Imphal-Moreh route at that time.

After listening to her stories about the atrocities meted out to her by her husband and family members, Sanahal took her to Nongdam and settled down there together.

A team of Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, who rushed to the village on getting information of the incident, handed over Naobi along with her new husband Sanahal and mother Kunjarani to Thoubal police.

Pastor of Nongdam Baptist Church also assisted the team in handing them over to the police.

Now, Laishram Chaoba is questioning the identity of the girl, who was forcibly cremated inside his homestead complex.

He also questioned who would compensate him and his father for the mob justice done against them three years back.
