Hearing of July 23, 2009 case Herojit, Munal fail to appear before Court

Head Constable Th Herojit and OC of Sekmai police station Y Munal today failed to appear before the Session Court, Imphal West in connection with a trial regarding the July 23, 2009 BT Road incident.
As part of the special trial case number 7 of 2010/ 57 of 2015 before the Session Court, Imphal West, two more prosecution witnesses submitted by CBI gave their statement before the Court.
The two prosecution witnesses who deposed before the Court as prosecution witnesses number 76 and 77 are ISTV Network senior reporter cum news reader Takhellambam Sunil and Th Shyamkanhai of Lamshang Bazar, a relative of Thokchom Rabina, a victim of the July 23, 2009 BT Road incident.
After hearing the statements submitted by the two prosecution witnesses, the Court later fixed May 3 for the next date of trial proceedings.
Seven suspended police personnel against whom the CBI had filed charge sheets have appeared before the Court.
However, OC of Sekmai police station Munal and Head Constable Th Herojit failed to appear before the Court during the trial proceeding today.
It may be mentioned that the case was handed over to CBI after Tehelka published the photos of the BT Road incident.
The CBI later submitted charge sheets against nine police personnel of Imphal West district including Y Munal, the then Officer In- charge of City PS, in connection with the incident.
The case was transferred from Session Court, Imphal West to Session Court, Imphal East on September 28, 2010 and the submission of prosecution witnesses started on January 5, 2012 and on November 23, 2014 the case was again transferred to Session Court, Imphal West.
So far 77 prosecution witnesses submitted by CBI including Sanjit's mother Taratombi, Imphal West SP Dr Ak Jhalajit had earlier deposed before the Court.
