District Social Welfare Office, Churachandpur has observed universal Children's Day today at its office complex, Churachandpur.
Grace Zamnu, MDC; Rachel N Guite, SDO Singat and A Umarani Devi, DSWO, Churachandpur graced the function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A painting competition with the theme, Think Health Not Drugs was also organised for the children.
Around 200 children attended the function while sweets, prizes and gifts were presented to them.
The District Administration, Thoubal in association with the District Social Welfare Officer/Thoubal, Youth Co-ordinator, NYK/Thoubal and Zonal Education Officer/Thoubal, organised a national level awareness generation campaign on the ill effects of Drug abuse at DC Office Counting Hall, Thoubal today with a painting competition on the theme "Think Health - Not Drugs" .
The occasion was graced by Khundrakpam Surnalata Devi, Adhyaksha, Thouubal Zilla Parishad as the Chief Guest while T Ranjit Singh, IAS, DC/Thoubal, L Nabakishwar Singh, MCS, CEO, Thoubal Zilla Parishad & Dr Kh Radheshyam Singh, CMO, Thoubal attended the function as the president and guests of honour respectively.
About 80 students participated in the painting competitions in two categories.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the birthday of great leader and first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, 44 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector celebrated Children's day at Chassad today, said a PRO IGAR (S) release adding that the event was inaugurated by the Commandant, 44 Assam Rifles, as the chief guest.
The day was celebrated with children putting up a grand cultural programme which included folk songs and traditional dances performed by the school children from AR School, Chassad, Kamjong and other adjoining villages.
The event, attended by prominent personalities, village authorities and populace of the area, culminated with distribution of sweets and refreshments.
In another occasion, 37 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector organized a Debate Competition to celebrate Children's Day at Tuijang village community hall in Chandel district.
The competition concluded with prize distribution to the winners and consolation prizes to the participants.
