Downstream project discussed

Imphal, November 11 2015:
Chief Minister O Ibobi held a review meeting at New Delhi regarding commencement of Loktak Downstream project to be implemented by Govt of Manipur and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Ltd as a joint venture.
An official source said that the review meeting was held at New Delhi on Nov 4 .
High ranking officials of Ministry of Power, NHPC Ltd, NIPCO and State Power Dept attended the review meeting.
The source further said that the meeting was held at the National Capital as officials concerned could not turn up for the meeting held in Imphal earlier.
Although tender for the Loktak Downstream project was issued in August 2014, the project has been delayed till now.
The CM reportedly told the officials of Ministry of Power to convene a joint meeting of all stakeholders to fix a specific date for commencement of the project, the source added.
The project has an installed capacity of 66 MW of power and the tentative cost has been pegged at Rs 1300 crore tentatively and this will be finalised once the tender bids are opened.
The meeting also discussed the proposed hydro projects at Irang, Tuivai, Pabram and Khongnem Chakha, for which the State had signed a pre-implementation agreement with NIPCO last year.
