Imphal, April 11 2011:
Along with seizing books prescribed by CBSE which were being taught in a private school instead of the ones prescribed by BSEM, volunteers of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) have yet again confiscated a large number of text books which were being sold without the hologram of the Board.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its head office here today, president of MSF Laishram Ibomcha informed that instead of the text books prescribed by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM), the prescribed text books of CBSE published by Macmillan Company Limited for class I to VII were found being taught in St Xavier English School at Khurai Ahongei in Imphal East during a drive conducted today.
Accordingly, the said text books have been seized by volunteers of MSF from the students of the school.
In addition to this, some other copies of the text books which were meant for distribution among the students have also been seized from the said school, Ibomcha further informed.
The Principal of the school in question is one Tharoijam Gojendra, who is also the president of All Manipur Private Schools' Welfare Association, Ibomcha disclosed and asked Gojendra as well as the PRO of the Association identified as Sunil to come to the head office of MSF and explain their stand.

Restriction has also been imposed on further functioning of the school, he added.
Ibomcha said that MSF has been trying for introduction of a common syllabus with 30 percent of the contents related to the history, geography and culture of Manipur with the main objective of instilling a feeling of Nationalism among the students.
In such a condition, the conduct of the school authority of St Xavier English School is condemnable.
Ibomcha pointed out that the Association may have announced earlier that the private schools would start teaching text books published outside the State if the BSEM fails to ensure availability of the prescribed text books to the students within the assured deadline of April 18.But teaching of text books prescribed under CBSE in St Xavier English School has been started even before this deadline.
If similar conduct were also detected in other private schools, the schools concerned would also be shut down, the student leader warned, adding that if any of the private schools affiliated under BSEM want to introduce text books of CBSE, then their affiliation should be cancelled at once.
On the other hand, volunteers of MSF have reportedly confiscated a large number of text books prescribed by BSEM which were found still being sold in book stores without the hologram of the Board.
Among the text books which were being sold without the hologram of BSEM, the English Post Book for class III were confiscated from Ketuki Offset located behind Pologround, Essence of Maths for class I from Lamyanba Printers, Social Science for class X from NHT, text books on Environmental Studies and Additional English for class X from Saratchandra Offset, Manipuri Londam Lairik for class V from RNB Nagamapal, Manipuri Sahitya Nachom for class 10 from ST Printers, Manipuri Tengbang Sahitya for class 10 from KK Art Centre, Essence of Mathematics for class II from Emoinu Offset (Governor Road) and Manipuri Londam Lairik for class VI from Sangai Offset Printers.
