Three jawans hurt in ZUF attack

Imphal, March 10 2015:
Three jawans were injured as suspected ZUF cadres attacked a foot patrol party of 8 Assam Rifles, who were on an area domination exercise, at Haochong under Noney police station in Tamenglong district today morning.
Sources said that the militants exploded an IED before they rained bullets on the troops.
The injured personnel were evacuated to Leimakhong military hospital by a helicopter.
They have been identified as rifleman number 5018494 Puia (27), rifleman number 50059524 Chirmani Jaimata (27) and riflemen number 5008349 Rajiv Kumar.
Puia received bullet injury on his left arm and left thigh while Chirmani Jaimata was injured on his right arm and Rajiv Kumar received bullet injury on his right thigh.
Sources said that although the troops retaliated the suspected militants managed to escape into the forest towards Nungtek area.
In another incident, an encounter took place between suspected underground militants and troops of 24 Assam Rifles B Company at Kwatha village near Border Pillar number 81 under Moreh police station in Chandel district at around 2 pm on March 6 last.
However, there was no casualty on both the sides, reliable sources said.
Meanwhile, a jawan of Territorial Army 113 Rajput Battalion attached to 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong died on the spot after one of his colleagues allegedly opened fired on him with his service INSAS rifle following an altercation at around 1.45 pm on March 6 last.
The accused has been identified as Sepoy AK Singh and the deceased as KW Singh.
Sekmai police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
